Speak- poetry by Sally Murphy
Trauma- no matter
The cause; damage is brutal
To one’s soul, spirit
Nightmares and flashbacks
Haunt, terrorize, hinder sleep
How to overcome
Abuse, rape, and more
Specifics irrelevant
Dehumanizing
Told to keep quiet
Years afterward;: do not talk
The shame and stigma
Why is there still fear
To share my story; be real
I’m a survivor
I want to stand tall
Be who I am meant to be
Step out of shadows
Resilience
Strength, courage, and sheer will power
I deserve to live
